Denise M. Garvey passed away peacefully on January 3, 2023 at Briarcliffe Memory Care Unit at the age of 72. She was the daughter of the late Mayor of Central Falls, Francis X. Garvey and Rita (Doyon) Garvey. She was the sister of Nancy Garvey Plummer of Cumberland, RI. She leaves behind 2 nieces and one nephew, Katie Philippi (Nick Philippi) of Needham, MA, Josh Plummer (Charlotte Barker) of Worcester, MA, Shannon Plummer of Uxbridge, MA, and two great nieces, Charlotte and Ellie Philippi of Needham, MA.

Born on February 22, 1950, she grew up in Central Falls until moving to Lincoln in 1980. She graduated from Holy Trinity School (1965), graduated from Central Falls High School (1968) and the University of RI where she earned her BA in Elementary School Education.

Denise was a dedicated teacher in Central Falls where she taught 4th grade at Dr. Earl F. Calcutt and Veterans Memorial Schools until her retirement in 2008.

Denise loved to travel. She enjoyed her annual trips to Narragansett Beach, Block Island, and Ogunquit, ME. She loved time with her family and socializing with her many friends and cousins. She was warm, funny and had a quick wit that caught everyone off guard bringing them to laughter.

Special thanks to Briarcliffe for the exceptional care they provided Denise while she resided there at the Cottage.

Calling Hours will be held on Monday, January 9th from 4:00pm-7:00pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, RI. Her Funeral will be on Tuesday, January 10th DIRECTLY at Historic St. Josephs Church, 1303 Mendon Rd., Cumberland, RI at 10:00am. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
